Owl always love you

A couple of years ago, I whipped up this little beauty using this fabulous design.

Owls 2

It still to this day is one of my favourite jumpers (especially now that I can fit into it again!) and receives many compliments.  Papa-dearest is an avid Owl fan and has been hounding me to knit him something Owl-esque ever since. Unbeknownst to him I started on a sweater not long afterwards annnnnnd two years later it is finally finished!

Hobbit Holes and Dwarves Scarves

For the past couple of weeks, Hubster and I have had the pleasure of my Long Lost Cousin to stay… All my cousins are “Long Lost” according to Hubster. Purely because they all reside on the opposite side of the world and I can count the number of times I’ve seen them on my fingers, while he grew up practically living with all of his. Nevertheless, it makes for rockin’ good times when my cousins come to visit our little slice of paradise.

This particular Cuz is a huge movie buff and Lord of the Rings fan, so naturally we had to take him to every Hobbit themed attraction possible. Mama-dearest took him on a tour of various filming-locations and the WETA workshops down in Wellington, and I had the pleasure of taking him to Hobbiton. Who knew so much fun could be had on a farm in the middle of Waikato.

Mum’s the word.

As mentioned previously, my mama is one of the hardest people to buy for. Mostly because she always claims not to want anything. As though that’s an option!

With Mother’s Day fairly soon after her birthday, it is a struggle each year to come up with ideas so close together. Luckily, Papa got her an iPad for her birthday so I knew exactly what I wanted to make her! Thanks Papa for being so extravagant.

Easter treats

Easter Egg Treats

Easter is usually a non-event in this household. Having no sprouts of our own yet the level of excitement that usually accompanies Easter Sunday just isn’t up to par.

Luckily, with the influx of nephews, god-children and other scrumptious littlies, all of whom are getting to the age where they understand Easter (or at least the chocolate involved) means that we can contribute something handmade to the occasion.

Superhero Saga

Carrying on with rather an apron-y theme, I have of late been making some (rather awesome in my opinion) superhero themed aprons. The first three I made for some friends of ours for Christmas. They received a family set of Ironman, Batman/girl and Wonder Woman.

The babe with the power

It is no surprise to the people I regularly interact with, that the allure of babies is finally hitting, and hitting hard! Anything baby related sends me weak at the knees, and actual babies have the power to reduce me to a  cooing, goo-gooing puddle. One look is all it takes to put that baby spell on me.

As the last of my school friends to have kids the question “so when are you two going to have babies?” occurs on almost a weekly basis. My husband has a very inappropriate joke in response to this but I’ll save sharing that for another day.

Now it’s my colleagues who are starting to multiply. A friend that I studied teaching with, and subsequently began my first job with, is about to have his first baby . He and his wife decided to keep the sex a secret (although we were all pretty sure it was gunna be a boy) so the present that I was going to make needed to be fairly gender neutral, just in case our guestimations were wrong. I decided on a cute little pair of bootie-boots and a hat as we are going into winter in the southern parts of the world, although Mother Earth doesn’t seem to have received that memo yet. Red and White was the final choice and the difficulty came in trying to make the items look more Cutie-Pie than Where’s Wally.

Pinny’s and Tea

A long serving colleague of mine, Miss Bea, has decided to retire. Needless to say she will be incredibly missed and as she is our go-to lady for all problems big and small, we will all be headless chooks when she leaves. She’s off travelling around Australia in a Camper-Van for the next few years. We’re all a bit jealous.

Many an hour was spent by the social committee trying to decide how to show her our appreciation. Eventually a high tea and a bespoke apron was decided upon – I was humbled to be asked to do the sewing.

The inspiration for this little number came from a friends apron. Miss Bee is a little more subdued in taste so we went for a more paired back look. We also decided to go for a reversible look as the fabrics were just too lovely.
